A former business partner of Stake UK, a crypto gambling platform that sponsors Everton FC, has filed a $400m lawsuit claiming that he was bullied by its co-founders and that they stole from him before attempting to bully him out of the business. Christopher Freeman alleges that he was the founder of Primedice, Stake’s predecessor, and that he had set up the business with Bijan Tehrani and Ed Craven. In court filings, Freeman claims that Tehrani and Craven later edged him out by using unlawfully tactics and that they misused Primedice funds without his permission to build Stake.

Stake’s Rapid Expansion

Stake, which has expanded rapidly in recent years, boasts a partnership with platinum-selling rapper Drake and successful UFC fighters, among others. It also sponsors Watford FC and a number of other gambling firms. Freeman is requesting a full audit of Stake’s assets to determine what he is owed. Stake, based in the Dutch Caribbean, dismissed Freeman’s claims, calling them ‘internally inconsistent, intentionally misleading and provably false,’ and ‘a desperate attempt to extort money,’ stating that they have no intention of giving in to this blackmail.

Alleged VPN Use and Response by Stake

Aside from the lawsuit, Freeman alleges that Stake not only endorses but encourages the use of virtual private networks by customers who wish to gamble with the site unlawfully in the US, where cryptocurrency gambling is illegal. Stake, however, denies the accusation, claiming that they comply with all applicable laws but admit that they do have to deal with illegal users attempting to evade geoblocking who use VPNs to access the platform.
